Here's some of the stuff we decided on, for future reference...
For Freshman Orientation, we figured we'd set up a screen playing a playlist full of AMVs, as well as a snazzy poster board with multiple mug shots (plus a gigantic pic of Kamina, since he's awesome.)
For Welcome Week, we decided that we'd bring people in by showing two movies. Specifically, we'd start with Howl's Moving Castle, then Akira after a brief intermission (both dubbed, since we don't want to turn people off). Nate is in charge of contacting Manga and Buena Vista to get permission to show said films; Mike will be looking into a room we could rent (ideally the ampitheater in the SSB) and whether or not we're allowed to bring food into said room; Justin will be putting together posters to advertise the event (with a disclaimer regarding Akira's R-rating for violence and brief nudity). We may also want to advertise over at Henry Ford as well.
Some ideas for special events besides normal anime showings that people suggested included...
- Making our own fandub/fansub
- An MST3K night where we show some cheesier series and then proceed to riff them.
- An AMV night where the professionals (Nate and, to a MUCH lesser extent, myself) teach the members how to make an AMV, then have an AMV wars competition.
- An anime OP/ED karaoke night.
It was also decided that we as a group want more episodes of fewer shows. Specifically, 2 3-episode blocks of finished shows/movies/OVAs, and newer shows during the remaining slots.
We also made a few picks for potential shows and movies that we want to see during the year, but we're going to wait until we can get as many members together as possible before making a final decision.
