With the problems that came up last term i've been thinking a bit on the why, in why I and my fellow co founder founded anime club, and what that means in the way i run it.
My co founder and i came from Ronin-anime, and with that club defunct and having then become comfortable with college we decided with Will's pushing to found the club.
But did we really have a goal in mind?
Well not really, we wanted to create something like Ronin so we could continue to gather and watch anime.
And by anime we where interested in showing new content, stuff from the cutting edge that maybe people maybe didn't pick up on yet.
So over the years my stated goal became to show new content, and try to sometimes dig up OLD shows that no one had seen yet.
This is why the votes to show, E7, BL, and OLS. stuck me as annoying because all 3 are established shows, that just about everyone knows about. It just seems that everyone just wanted to watch stuff they felt safe in.
Other than keeping within decency standard for the school setting i wanted to push the newest content i could get my hands on.
I just feel that showing established content takes away from why the club was founded in the first place.
In an age of digisubs, to watch stuff you can find on tv just seems to defeat what an anime club should be doing.
And there is my case.

i came into the anime realm kinda later than most the people in the club but still keep to date with most of the classics in the time i started major watching such as, gundam seed & FMA that i can think of off top of my head.
i do remember E7 on toonami but i never really saw it only a few eps here and there
never did see BL till it was shown in the club not even sure what OLS is
as for new content i try to watch the ones that catch my eye
as for the goal of the club maybe it should also include showing the oldies like you mentioned
perhaps the goal should be also to have people appreciate anime more than what they already conceive it to be, other than some japanese import
i guess what im trying to say is that before people can truly appreciate the newer content people should also appreciate (or at least be aware of) the greats of the past
I, myself, do not mind the showing of some older shows so long there is at least some new content of recent times
its true most the well established ones were on tv at some point but anime (at leaston my tv) is very rare now besides adultswim and they dont even have a interesting line up for me to want to stay up and watch, even if its a dub
most of the established ones now have aired and gone anime on tv for me at least is a relic of the past (R.I.P toonami)
its a new year perhaps a new goal is to be set
appreciate anime more than they currently do, by showing old and new so we get a taste of classics and fresh stuff imo
>,> besides an anime club is kinda rare or well at least from my knowledge and only club im active in

If you were planning to never show what the club voted for, then just remove it from the ballot so we can see how biased you really are. There is no reason to NOT show material the members voted that they want to see.
Because of the blatant practices of the leadership of Anime club, I refuse to join. The president is completely ignorant of what should be happening and how he is.

Nothing wrong with showing new stuff, but nothing wrong with showing old stuff either. After all, there's still a decent chance that someone watching hasn't seen all, or even ANY of an "established" series, and some shows are enjoyable enough that you don't mind and sometimes even look forward to watching it through again. Not to mention that REALLY good shows have been hard to come by the last few seasons, IMO, so there's nothing wrong with digging back through the archives to try and find something more favorable.
Obviously, new stuff is all well and good, but there's nothing wrong with revisiting an old favorite if that's what people want.

Honestly I wouldn't mind re-watching E7, BL (Black Lagoon, not Boy's Love or Yaoi which this acronym commonly refers to in the anime world), and OLS. I really don't mind what anime club shows as long as it isn't completely horrible or Yaoi. I am going to watch all the new anime series that I want whether the anime club is showing them or not, so I really don't care if AC is gonna skip over some of the shows that I'd really like to see. If the staff of the Anime Club still have their blocks with whatever they want to show, there should be nothing wrong with showing Eureka Seven or the other established shows as long as that's what everyone voted for. But perhaps some members of the club that don't have as easy of an access to internet or technology to watch newly airing shows from Japan might be missing out if most of the time is occupied by mainstream shows that have already aired. I suggest, that possibly, at one of our meetings, we could discuss what everyone agrees to be established shows and then limit the roster to one or two of those shows with the rest being newer series and older more unknown series. This is just a suggestion, but it could possibly help everyone agree on something.

Here is the problem. The club had a vote. The president ignored it. Unless members unite and push out the president, then no change will occur. It should be unacceptable for Gabe to go back on his word. We had a vote. Eureka 7 won. He was supposed to show what won. He did not. That is bullshit.

Well I have really enjoyed how Gabe has run the meetings so far, and well he did found the club. I cannot see any reason for him to be pushed out, and its not very likely that would happen anyway. I say if you can't watch a certain show at Anime Club, then just watch it yourself at home. Its as easy as that.

perhaps at least one slot should be reserved only for older anime series
that seems like it would solve most of problems from both points of view

Yeah, that's kind of like what I was suggesting.

I could talk at great length, and have done so, about my POV of what an anime club should be vs. what this club actually is and what it does. And if anyone wants to hear this I will gladly discuss it at the meeting today or afterwards as I plan to be up at the school most of the day.
Gabe, if you want to do some changing of the aim of the club, might it be prudent to also change the constitution to discuss this?
