well as things stand today
we're going to have 8-9 slots, going 20-24 min with a 10-20 min flex time
For the first meeting of the year we're going to kick it off with the lights on and some introductions.
Nate who will replace Mike as Veep this term mentioned that for his slot we'll be running a cycling mix of OAVs.
Now because of it's success i'll be keeping with Mike's old slot call of SZS, since people enjoy it and it makes for some chaos. (removed due to suggestions from L)
shows with * have aired or are on DVD Right now i'm considering (AAA Mud Hens) Umineko (ie Higurashi 3) (12-26)* K-on (13)* Hayate 2 (26) (already shown S1 and people liked it then)* Spice and Wolf 2 (13) (people liked S1)* Railgun (13-26?) (well we showed index so)
Shows under consideration (AA Sea Wolves) Asura Cryin' (13+13) (S1 followed by S2) * Tears to Tiara (26)* Saki (26)* Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z Hen (26, also short 20min episodes with opening ending)* Shangri-La (26)* The Sacred Blacksmith (??) Kampher (may be my slot call) (??) Dogs OVA (4+?)* Gaogaigar (52) (Mazinger or this not both)* YJ (there, might be paired with Mazinger or GGG in a hour block)*
Shows that will be shown but not till they start of course Fairy Tail (Many)
Shows removed from old list SZS3 (13) (someone mentioned people where getting board with it)* Haruhi 2 (13?) (2 words "endless eight")*
Shows from poll not listed due to lack of DVDs (at least in my or the club collections i know off the top of my head) Ten ten* Count*
Shows that i've tried to show but didn't workout in the past .Hack (i like it honestly (own all 28 episodes even) but i still don't think it will air well)*
Shows that i considered their suggestion a joke in the first place Eva (do you really want to show this? really?)*
Shows i'd rather not reshow Outlaw Star (would angel links interest you?)*
Shows to fill in till fall shows start in October Lucky Star OAV (1 (set for opening night))* looking for other shorts
(edit much changed)

OK, I call bullshit. Seriously. There is clearly an active thread with suggestions that you are ignoring. I am now officially going to look through the club rules and see what needs to be done to hold a new election. Firemage is clearly using the club to suit his own interests.
I mean there is a thread with eight different people requesting Yakitate Japan and its not even bring considered!? If I do not succeed in having you replaced, then I am done with anime club. I do not care who replaces you, as long as they listen to club members requests.

first things first i didn't ignore that list Yakitate was shown last year, and is a shonen title it suffers the same fate as bleach when i showed it, i'd rather not restart titles that we got fairly far in with the new members that might be coming in. As far as shounen goes we have Fairy Tale entering with the new season. New seasons are one thing since they contain refresh emements to keep people up to date. Of the 19 titles on that list i've listed 11 here (+1 for hayate which luke mentioned) so lets go down said list Yakitate!! Japan (5 votes) (See above reason) Shin Mazinger Shougeki! Z Hen (3 votes) (mentioned) Umineko no Naku Koro ni (mentioned) Fairy Tail (3 votes) (mentioned) .hack// (tried showing once didn't work) Outlaw Star (2 votes) (shown) Neon Genesis Evagenlion (2 votes) (........... half the club would lynch me, and eva debates are old) Eden of the East (didn't really dl it but if it got enough pushing i might show it, just dropped off my radar) Spice and Wolf II (mentioned) To Aru Kagaku No Railgun (mentioned) Tears to Tiara (mentioned and copied pasted from the list in the first place) Saki (mentioned and copied pasted from the list in the first place) Shangri-La (2 votes) (mentioned and copied pasted from the list in the first place) Asura Cryin' (mentioned with the notes about airing order) Zan Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (mentioned) Gonzo's Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo Anime (anyone own the DVDS?) Dogs: Bullets & Carnage (OAV) (i said short stuff could work, this might make a good slot in till fall stuff starts) Tenjho Tenge (Anyone own the DVDS?) K-on (mentioned) Now factoring the Lucky Star OAV which is space filler till the fall season starts, i tossed 3 other shows into the list, Haruhi 2 which we've already done S1 so we often do S2s, and then two which i felt i should make people aware of, one of which i noted might be my slot call. why did i skip the other thread? simple i'm making a staff post here, i don't want these comments lost in the 2 pages of the other thread. honestly eva is the only show i consider strait up troll bate from the list, and not that i don't like it, it is just one of thous shows most fans myself included have seen 6+ times.

On the other hand, you didn't start showing Yakitate until midway through second semester, and it was usually the first thing to get preempted if there was a time conflict, so it's not like we got very far in the first place. Also, a point of clarification, Hayate II is only 26 eps.
On a side note, we are NOT showing Haruhi S2, for everyone's sake. If you show all of "Endless 8", I can guarantee that you would be lynched far worse than if you had shown Evangelion.

i was wondering honestly how to work out showing endless 8,
one thing i'm considering is just getting all of haruhi out of the way in blocks before fall shows start yet. using it as just fill till new stuff starts, (about 4 weeks normally) and use it as an experment into the idea of doing showing in 3-4 episode blocks. rather than our customary 2 episode max, (which i might note is something people have asked me for in the past)
also i'm looking for people willing to help me do filers and ready stuff for next week (not monday for family reasons)

Here's how to do it: DON'T.
Seriously, everyone familiar with Haruhi is likely going to end up watching S2 on their own time, not to mention that people will get SERIOUSLY pissed if you show what is essentially the same episode over and over again, ESPECIALLY if you show each iteration one after the other. Not to mention that I doubt people will be pleased about a single episode taking up a whole block week after week, or the same episode taking up a third of the nightly lineup.

Rather then showing haruhi as a test of showing multiples of one series each week, why not show an OVA or a movie which would take up that amount of time? It rotates each week then (or every 2 weeks for some that are 6 eps long) thus bringing something fresh into the line up nearly every week.
And I broke my karma/post count awesomeness to suggest this, you best bet I'm serious.

It has come to my attention, that some of my previous statements have been interpreted as trolling. While last week would have been a fine time to continue this discussion. I only have enough time and energy to say two things until other way more important events subside.
1) It is not trolling to state an opinion which is pretty valid and shared by at least a few other members. More than you realize.
2) The line up should be 90% what its members want to see with a slot or two devoted to other stuff. Not the other way around. The staff exists to serve its members, not the other way around.
I would usually continue with a thorough point by point debate analyzing all of the many aspects I find wrong with the situation, but I am not in the mood.

As far as shounen goes we have Fairy Tale entering with the new season. it doesn't matter what you want to do if everyone else wants to watch it. New seasons are one thing since they contain refresh emements to keep people up to date. it does matter whether you think the members need to be up-to-date or not. The only thing that should matter is what they want to watch. Of the 19 titles on that list i've listed 11 here (+1 for hayate which luke mentioned) so lets go down said list Yakitate!! K-on (mentioned) It doesn't matter if you've shown if previously. Not only is this a new group of completely different people, if everyone wants to watch the same series over again we should because everyone wants to. Now factoring the Lucky Star OAV which is space filler till the fall season starts, i tossed 3 other shows into the list, Haruhi 2 which we've already done S1 so we often do S2s, and then two which i felt i should make people aware of, one of which i noted might be my slot call. why did i skip the other thread? simple i'm making a staff post here, i don't want these comments lost in the 2 pages of the other thread. honestly eva is the only show i consider strait up troll bate from the list, and not that i don't like it, it is just one of thous shows most fans myself included have seen 6+ times. The other thread was not supposed to be where you posted this. The other thread was there so that you would see what everyone wanted to watch and then pick those shows because those are the shows people want to watch. Which, in case you haven't been reading up till now, are the exact shows you should be showing. Now, I am going to talk to the SAO and student government if I can when I come in on monday. I will talk to them about whether a graduate student is allowed to the president of a club. And I will get you forcibly removed from your position if it is at all possible. If this is not the case, I will completely ignore your friday showing of anime and work together with everyone else who doesn't approve of your, "I think we should watch this, so we are going to" style of show choices, and do a completely separate viewing of anime where we will accept the suggestions of the people who show up. If you don't feel like reading what I wrote here is a shortened version. -You should show want people say they want to watch, not what you think they should be watching -If I can forcibly remove you from presidency of UMD Anime I will -If I can't, a good number of people will probably be watching anime elsewhere

Justin right now my grad student status isn't the question, i'm still an undergrad till the paperwork is processed.
And if either of you hadn't noticed, i said CONSIDERING, now with edits to the first post. (note these edits are due to my talks with L over AIM, which is also a good way to talk with me about things)
I'll be on campus monday for a time, i hope to have a talk about this in person since forums make it hard to convey meaning.

arguments tl:dr
It has always been my opinion that an anime club should be more then just a bunch of people sitting around watching anime. True, that is what in the end we ultimately do, but there is so much more that can be done with that. A club should be there to create, foster, and build fandoms. By actively searching for new members, finding people who watch certain series from time to time and bringing them in to see more. If a new member has really only seen one type of series, you see what they like about it and then suggest other series that would appeal to them, and then show them some of it. If they like it you then start showing more of it, or help them get a hold of more of it. Members get together and watch series, new and old. Older members go out into the school populous and bring in new members, either by finding fans who don't know about us, or through conversations getting someone into anime for the first time. It's about breaking the barriers set up by conventional thinking of cartoons are just for kids and fostering a healthy community of fans and friends watching things they love and finding new things they love. Everyone working together to bring forth this, everyone input being considered, and in the end everyone walking away happy and satisfied.
I just don't see enough of this going on here. Especially the creating and fostering new fandoms. That is really lacking. Broadening fandoms is kind of happening through the current aim of showing all new stuff, but it isn't exactly working.
We should be participating more with anime companies and the like. Hell, they give out free DVDs and stuff all the time. We should be doing more things as a club. And we should be actively interfacing with the campus populace.
These are things that made previous clubs I've been part of a success. Right now I feel we are just stagnating, and in a way I think the old air is starting to slowly choke it to death.
