eh?? who cares about the dub, needs a good plot before they can even consider a dub, also one problem bones might have is right now the FMA director is director for Gundam 00
I hope they go for the manga story
i just want more Rie Kugimiya, not a tsudere but she did a good Al

this may be an old thread but i MUST reply to it.
i saw FMA and well the dub sucked to me but i really wonder how they intend to contiune the anime seeing as the manga had a completely different story line after a certain chapter
so im guessing the 2nd anime will introduce ling and mei??
and the whole earth type alchemy mei does

I think that all dubs suck compared to the original Japanese audio. After watching a series in Japanese and then trying to watch it in English, I am just disgusted with the lack of enthusiasm and character of the English voice actors.

I've seen the FMA dub, it is not one of the better dubs, while in general i don't like dubs there are a few diamonds hidden among the coal.

Clearly, you haven't watched the cream of the crop, like Cowboy Bebop and Black Lagoon... well i think im with ed335dot on this because i never watch dubbed anime ever since they killed my favorite show at the time which was FMA. I did watch the japanese orginal 1st because my friends said the dub sucked for various reasons. Well i didnt believe them at 1st then after i saw the whole series subbed i saw the dub and well i dont think the voices fit the character compared to the orginal >_> i never saw cowboy bebop or black lagoon they never caught my interest. the only good dub that i seen after i saw it in japanese was tengen toppa gurren lagann, the voices did compare to some degree but that leeron oh my was he perfect~ |

Thanks for the support. Japanese voice actors really know how to do their job, and I'd much rather watch things in their "original" format.

Actually, something the Japanese do I really wish English companies would start is having voice actors voice their parts together. Some of the best Disney duos have been done this way. Actors feed off of each other. It just sounds superficial the way America tends to do dubbing. If characters are talking back and forth to each other why shouldn't they be voiced in the same way?
Seriously, who cares about which is better? DVDs supply both dub and sub (unless you get a crappy DVD by like 4kids) so you can watch your preference. I myself tend to lean towards sub, because often the interactions just feel more natural. I do however watch dubs, mostly when I'm not paying attention, but I still do watch some series that I first caught dubbed back when subs were hard to come by.
I often agree with the sentiment that whatever you see first is what you will tend to find sounds better, or more natural. More people need to see Armitage III: Polymatrix, that dub is BOSS!

Well, that's actually how they do things with the pre-lay shows, which is much easier because the animation hasn't always been laid down yet, so the animation company can adjust body and lip movements to fit the actors' pace. The problem with doing that in anime or other forms of ADR like video games is the fact that you've got to "fit the flaps". There's no leniency, so the actors have to match the pace of the footage that already exists. If multiple people were to try to do an ADR session, it would be difficult to get everyone to perfectly match up their lines during a single take, and one mistake could throw the entire process off, making it a much tougher and more time-consuming process. Although you're right that dubbing doesn't aways feel as dynamic and forceful. Part of the reason for that is, like you said, that the Japanese actors can play off each other's performances since they record the same way that domestically-produced shows are over here, with the animation matching the voices instead of vice versa. When dubbing, especially in the case of video games, it's more of a guessing game, where you have to imagine how another actor will portray another character and try to build off that. It's difficult, to be sure. |

i suggest for the dubbers here should watch the show before hand so they can find out they can fit the part or not make the cut for it, yea though the dubbers on a time schedule but that would be a nice idea for them when dubbing.
though i dont know if they already do this or not >_>
