I was thinking about how sick I was to know how much every meeting we have here turns out to be such a huge sausage party.
Now I'm not trying to make this club into some kind of matchmaking social network or anything, it's just that I think we could use some differing opinions about various anime from a different perspective.
And no, I'm not talking about being a fan of girly animes - that does not count for this. Gabe and I are not surrogates for our deficancy...
I thought anime was becoming more popular with people, and considering the content of a lot of anime these days, I figured that a lot of women and girls would be getting into the scene pretty hard. Instead, we have more of the same as seen in a lot of "special interest" clubs.
So what can we do to attract more female fans, provided any of them exist anywhere in this campus? Should we show animes that would attract them? Or is it because of our image that drives females out? Damn, I need to work out more...
I think it would be in the best interest of this group to find ways to attract more diversity in this club. Heck, it would be a good change of pace to talk to someone about the intricacies of the relationships in Cardcaptor Sakura for once.

Why talk about CCS when we can do manly things like grunting, tom-foolery, and making fun of Shinji Ikari?

Dude, when I was president of UK's anime clube the girls had what they called a girls night out where they'd watch Shoujo. I wanted to go, but they wouldn't let me unless I allowed them to turn the night into a 'make the president look pretty' night.
I wanted to, but my good friend and the old president insisted on having a Halo and Manly movies night at my place...

Umm, I'm ok with shoujo. In fact I like some of it, and I say that with a straight face and a full grip on my masculinity.
But I didn't mean we HAD to watch CCS! Even though I have only seen up to the first season!
Do we have to show stereotypically feminine anime to attract women?!

It's not like we are watching KimiKiss though. If you want to really get girls attentions start showing Yaoi. I by no means think you should do this. In fact if you ever do I will personally break your computer and pay $2000 to buy you a new one; it will have an irremovable vista on it.
Anyway if you want to attract girls but still have guys showing up you may have a problem. A lot of the guys are against shojo (i.e. me). However, I do love a good romance. You should should show Kimi ga Nozomu Eien (Rumbling Hearts). It could attract girls. I would have a good time watching it. During the middle all the girls will start crying. Then we get the chance to score major points by comfoting them.
Seriously Gabe, you should pay for these kind of ideas.

Actually, when it came to the last club I was a part of, we didn't have any problems attracting girls to the showings. We showed all kinds of different types of series from shoujo all the way to hentai (yes, we actually showed hentai at meetings.) Though we had a 1 series a week policy with showings, so there was always something new each week.
Personally, I think all we really need is advertisement. I literally had to DIG in order to find any info out about the club (mainly to see if I was going to have to start one myself.) At UK we had flyer's all over the place and each one pointed to a website which had tons of information about the club. Our members were also active and actively recruited new members. I do know that one of the employees in the bookstore pointed me in the direction of the club after seeing my t-shirt, so I'm not saying it ISN'T there, but if it is (I just haven't seen it) it isn't very visible.
My g/f does like to come, but she can't always make it. And technically she can't be a member since she doesn't goto the university. But at least that's one regular visitor to showings, even if she is just tagging along with me.
