Current Status (Please Read!)

Okay, here's where we stand on a bunch of stuff as of this last meeting.

For Freshman Orientation, we're sticking with the giant posterboard with the mugshots on them. We'll probably want a pretty even split of male and female characters, i.e. Kamina, Lina, Spike, Revy, Kyon, Konata, etc.

For welcome week, we decided that despite our inability to have food, CASL 1030 was the best choice for showing the movies. As for stuff that still needs to be done, we still need posters for advertising (the Howl one will be provided once we get that worked out, and Justin or I can take care of the one for Akira), plus funding issues for Howl needs to be resolved (especially considering that we apparently have budgetary issues) and the form for Akira needs to be faxed out. (Gabe: PLEASE get on this ASAP, since you and Mike are the only ones who can sign off on this)

For the MST3K night, now tentatively known as "Mystery Anime Theater 9001", here's the list of shows up for parody:
- Pokemon
- Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters
- Zoids Genesis
- Neon Genesis Evangelion
- Voltron
- The Transformers: The Movie
- Speed Racer
- G-Force/Battle of the Planets
- Sailor Moon
- DB/DBZ/DBGT

Finally, we have an early version of the lineup we want to show during the main club meetings. We want to try and transition from the lighthearted more comedy-oriented shows at the start to the darker action-oriented stuff towards the end. Each of the shows we've picked has a reason for being on the list, as detailed below:

- Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (A fairly lighthearted comedy series to help ease people into the lineup)
- SoulEater (Something that'll hook the Naruto crowd)
- GaoGaiGar + GaoGaiGar Final (Because a mech show of some sort is strongly appreciated, and this is bound to hook the Gurren Lagann lovers)
- Fate stay/night (Another fairly bright, colorful action show)
- The SoulTaker (A high quality dub to help the casual fans and non-fans adjust; shown later in the evening for the action crowd)
- Devil May Cry (See SoulTaker; add the fact that most people would know the characters and that there's consistency with the voice casts in both languages)
- Black Lagoon (See SoulTaker)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! first series, AKA Season Zero (plus the movie) (Recognizable characters thanks to the 4Kids version and the Abridged series; I'd rather we hold off until later in the year once we've got a dedicated crowd coming to meetings before showing this one)

Comments? Questions? Changes you'd like to make? Please speak up, as we really need to get moving on this stuff before we run out of time!

Thats what I get for not showing up. I don't get a chance to defend my series. I'll still bring them to the screening or whenever.

My personal opinion on this list is that there is still too much. Gotta shave off a few.

i'll get the akira stuff out before the elections. (this tuesday the primaries)

On shows it looks like the list is very Steve+Luke

- Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei - Light hearted? your kidding right he tires to off himself in the first 10 seconds
- SoulEater - True, and another good option for this would be Nabari no Oh, which i think few people would have watched but makes a good option on the side
- GaoGaiGar + GaoGaiGar Final - I still need to buy this, but i'd rather show real robot style mecha, like Macross which we know won't get licensed till Havana ices over. (Hell freezes over every winter up here)
- Fate stay/night - already shown, alt choice would be Garden of Sinners also from type-moon sure it's a movie type thing but with 7?+ parts on the way Kara no Kyuokai is a good action choice (note i do own the full dvd set for FSN none the less)
- The SoulTaker - you and your dubs..... sigh, a bit of an older choice if we're trying to do classicish shows maybe the NEW Birdy might be a good option or even the not a remake but the Blade of the Immortal anime would be good for a later night action slot
- Devil May Cry - anyone own this one? and for the record i think Dante is an ass
- Black Lagoon - I'd like to point out that Lagoon has been aired at least a few times state side, as recently as June infact.
- Yu-Gi-Oh! - no, i don't care how much they are more mature it's still a card battle series

when are you planning this MST thingy?? i'll let you deal with it if you want

Emphasis on "tries". It's still a goofy comedy show that I think a lot of people will get into, much like with Hayate.

Maybe. Let's stick with SoulEater for now, though, since that's already got positive reception with current members.

Again, these people will be fresh off Gurren Lagann thanks to Sci-Fi's airings, so it'd be an easier transition if we threw in another hot-blooded robot show. (And don't mention Code Geass, since NO ONE watches that for the mechs.) As for "real mecha" shows, Aquarion was also thrown around a few times, and Justin and I are already planning to show Eureka Seven as the first of the Alternative Viewings series.

Garden of Sinners is on the list of movies we want to show, but I'd rather we get a permanent schedule of shows figured out first before deciding on movies. We considered Tsukihime as well, but decided against it because the pacing is rather slow, especially at the start, and might turn people away as a result.

Again with the dub bashing? Why do you hate America, Gabe?

Once again, we need a strong lineup of dubs because THAT'S what casual fans and non-fans watch. People are going to be turned off by the idea of reading anime, so we need to have a strong line up of dubs to help bring them in and transition into the more hardcore fandom. Also, Blade of the Immortal has only just started airing, so it's hard to make a real judgment of series quality at this point

The first volume has been released, but not the second or third volumes.

- Black Lagoon - I'd like to point out that Lagoon has been aired at least a few times state side, as recently as June infact.

Black Lagoon aired on Starz Edge, which is a channel that few people tend to get, and it's not currently airing on TV (unless there's something wrong with my DVR...). I'd say that there's an 85% chance that none of the newcomers will have ever watched it on TV, and by the time club starts, 1-16 will be on DVD, with 17-20 being released

- Yu-Gi-Oh! - no, i don't care how much they are more mature it's still a card battle series

The card battling is only in certain episodes; if you actually watched the damn series, you'd know. Besides, I said we'd hold off on it until we got a dedicated group together because I know there'd be some inevitable backlash.

Once more, this list is NOT in any way set in stone. This is just an early draft of what we believe to be an ideal schedule in terms of bringing in new members. Please don't hesitate to make new suggestions if you think that they'd be a welcome addition.

No specifics yet; like the movies, we'll figure out when we want to do that as time goes on. We'll decide on a date once the more important stuff is taking care of.
