alright, I felt the topic deserved it's own thread. The older thread can be found at umdanimeclub.proboards107.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=285&page=1Some updates on the subject. We may not need to dig through the sofa to get the money for Howl's Moving Castle. We could use the club account to pay for it and then get the school to reimburse it. We need to go the SOAC to approve it first, which means we'll need an estimate. On the subject of estimates, we have a dilema. We could use CASL 1030 and have theater style seating for the event, but no food would be allowed in the room. The other option is to get Kochoff hall C which will lack theater seating, but we can have food. I've talked to K. Stone about finding how much popcorn will cost, but I need to get back to her about whether we want to switch the room from CASL 1030. Also, Amy suggested trying to get the rights through 3rd party companies which may offer them for less. I'd like to hear Nate's take on this. One last thing. Gabe, have you faxed the form in yet for Akira?

Like I asked you earlier. The ideal would be CASL 1030. Ask if it would be possible to bring food in there as long as we promise to clean up everything. If they say no is no then drop it and we'll come up with a decision then. There is no harm in asking if we could do something with permission. We would like to do this right.

Good thoughts. We'll have to discuss this further tomorrow...
Also, there's a variety of factors that go into choosing the room, such as hw many people we can fit, how big a screen we can get, food availability, etc. So, given factors such as these, which seems like the more ideal choice?

To me, a room that can seat a large number of people (especially if we advertise the hell out of this) would be ideal. A large screen and good sound are also much needed. I have yet to see CASL 1030, but I know Kochoff hall C isn't that big. Of course, a good estimate on people would be needed.
On the 3rd party issue. Do we know of the 3rd party? As it stands the company we would obtain rights from that I've spoken to is technically a 3rd party. They aren't Disney, they aren't Buena Vista. I would think a 3rd party would cost more, since they would raise the price to cover their own costs and make a profit.
The big thing with this is, do we know of a 3rd party, are they legit, and would we be getting the same stuff from them (such as screener copy, advertising materials?) I don't know of any myself.
So, are we meeting tomorrow? Depending on time frame I may be able to make it.

I'll ask about the seating capacity of CASL 1030 and Kochoff C. I'll also check the possibility of having food in the room and get the Anime Club's account squared away. Supposedly we currently have a negative balance of $1.86. If that is so, I'm saving the receipt for that transaction.
Edit: Update! CASL 1030 has a little less than Kochoff, but we probably aren't going to fill either up (120~ vs. 150~). I also asked about food in 1030 and apparently food isn't allowed in the auditorium without exceptions, even if we clean up.
Karen Stone suggested using Kochoff C for three reasons. 1) we can have food there. 2) more people go through the UC and so there will probably be more traffic for the event. 3) the audio visual people are apparently kind of di##ish when it comes to working with student org events (not her words, but my simplified interpretation)
Also, Kochoff C is currently being held for us, but CASL 1030 isn't. We still need to do the reservations to actually have the room, but I wanted to get everyone's input first.
Edit 2: oh, and K. Stone will have an estimate on popcorn for us by Wednesday.

Sounds like Kochoff will be the better choice. Lets do that.

I'll meet on friday.
You know Gabe, we are trying to get stuff done. If there is a better time for you to meet, try suggesting it instead.
