Alt. Anime Viewings

I have had this little idea for awhile,

I was thinking of watching some anime at another time during the week. It wouldn't be long or anything; only 1.5 - 2 hours or something. And during this time we would watch episodes of one anime. Basically so I can get a story arc finished, or have the story progess fast so you aren't waiting a week to see the next episode. Since Gabe is showing mostly new ones that are currently airing, I figured I could try to show some that aren't airing and have been completed/licienced so people who haven't seen them can. Obviously if we were to go through with this it couldn't be on friday's at 5:00 PM because that is when the official anime night is.

Basically there are just some series *cough* Evangelion *cough* that some people haven't seen. I think a nice option would be to start showing these sometime during the week to expand some of the current members list, and possibly draw new members in.

I do not think we would need to book a room for this. I believe watching it on the my/someone else's laptop or the TV (not likely) upstairs in the UC would suffice for this kind of thing.

Well anyway I can pretty much do these anyday.

Monday - before my class untill 1:40 PM
Tuesday - after class at 1:20 PM untill whenever
Wednesday - see monday
Thursday - see tuesday
Friday - anytime up untill 4:30 PM

So, what do you guys think of this. Good? Bad? I am borderline insane? Stupid? Best idea since sliced bread?

Of course I will be talking to you guys tomorrow (friday) during the day if I happen to see you.

I really can't stop ya, and it's not like i've not done this before, i just have a fairly tight class set this term..............

I talked to most of you guys today and the genere concensuss is to do this on Tuesdays or Thursdays.

So, I will continue to talk to people on monday, and on Tuesday we will try this puppy out. The first thing on the list is Evangelion+EoE; as long as Mike brings the DVDs back by Tuesdays we should be fine. Also I plan to try this on Thursday this week also. Judging from that I will decide whether to continue on Tues or Thurs or even a different day.

This sounds simply awesome. I always have work on Friday nights and I have never been able to attend any actual meetings except that one day where I had a Chem. exam. I am SICK of missing meetings and being a regular annoyance in the UC cubicle, so I think this is great.

As for Eva, I was meaning to get a chance to see EoE in all its horrible glory. This will be interesting. I wonder what other shows would be good to see in this time slot though? Anyone care for Card Captor Sakura and its movies?

I'd personally love to see this idea integrated, and Evangelion is a good choice to start off with. Perhaps we can wire up a set of speakers as well so everyone can listen.

If it doesn't get added to the main club lineup, I'd be willing to show Gurren-Lagann one of those days as well. I've got all 27 episodes plus the OVA, and I'm working on getting the uncut version of Episode 6, so availability isn't an issue. Besides, the fight in the final episode is so freaking epic that if you don't see it, then you're being horribly deprived.

I like where this thread is going...

not so keen on Eva (seen it enough personally) but I love the idea considering I currently work Fridays right now, however I'm toying with the idea of moving that work day to a different day.

Perhaps this could be a reason for me to stop my campus on Tues/Thurs when I'm not in class or at work.

Well on Eva there are enough guys in our group who never saw the "classics" during their early stages, and then there are thous of us who go into anime back during the "VHS Master sub" era...... (9 bloody years......)

The only reason why i am showing Eva is because there are people who haven't seen it. And I have a friend of mine that would be willing to watch Eva. However Eva is the only thing I have planned. So, anything after that will be decided by you guys. Everyone will have their suggestions and what not, then we'll take a vote. Simple system. But the first thing on the list is Eva.

Also Luke, if your going to be here on Tuesday could we use your laptop for the viewing? As most of you know mine doesn't play DVDs too well.

I've got Tuesdays and Thursdays free between 11:10 and 3:00, as well as after 4:15, so I 've got no problem with that.

4:30 seems a little late for me, I have a class at 5:10. I'll go with it anyway though, it's still just the first few episodes of Eva.

As for other animes, would it be possible for us to tap into the DVD reserve in the Club Cubboard? There are a few in there that I'd actually like to see.

Well in that case. We could sart at 1:30 when I get off class, stop at 3:00, then continue at 4:30. I only plan on showing one disc of Eva which is like 5 episodes.

Well for one there isn't much in the club stocks right now since i've not brought back the bulk of my collection yet. I've been keeping um on hand here at my grandfather's

Over the weekend i think i'll catolog my collection................... (May heaven have mercy on my soul)

Just to let everyone know, The anime viewing went well. There were 4 people watching. But there were 2 people in the background that could've been watching. But none the less the audio comentary coming from us would've been awsome to record. Close to the end only Luke and I were left so it seems that 1:30 - 3:00 is the best time so far. We will try to view some more on Thursday but it will have to be at 4:30 because of some time issues. Also we will be viewing some Eva on friday before club this week also. Everyone is here so we might as well. I also want to get through Eva as quick as possible so we can get on to the stuff you guys want to watch.

Which brings me to my next question. Which animes do you guys want to watch after Eva. I let everyone have one suggestion. I will try to find trailers for each one. Then I'll try to get some CDs with the trailers out for you guys. Then we'll take a vote after we finish Eva. So either post your suggestion here, or let me know in person. Well anyway here is the anime I will throw into the ring,

As for recording our commentary, I might actually be able to make something like that work out. I have a pretty good USB mic courtesy of the Rock Band bundle, plus I've got Audacity installed on my computer, so I could definitely get something like that working.
