You know, I was checking out my old site designs on the wayback today and I ran across the website I created for UK Anime before I left. We had ourselves setup as affiliates of ecampus.com as a way to make some money for the club. Essentially, we urged our members who already use ecampus to buy books (we had a store locally in Lexington) to put us down and the club would gain %5 in income based on the order.
Have we thought about doing something like this? It's an easy fund raising kind of thing. When I ran AMUK and UK Anime I looked at tons of ways to raise funds for the club, one was to go out and ask students to sign up for credit cards and we gained like 5 bucks to 15 bucks per application we turned in.
Have we thought about ways to get money for the club that we can then use to put back into the club? does anyone know what restrictions we have as a club on what we can do to raise funds?

There are a fair number of rules on what clubs can do for fundraising. check with the SAO for more info i just know it often didn't seem worth the time to figure out everything.

Well I think it would be definitely worth the time to figure out everything. Nate, if it were legally in our power to set up an affiliation with another website, would you be willing to help me work something out? Also, the credit card thing seems to be a great idea as well. Thank you for your input about this fund raising, hopefully we will be able to put it to good use.

Sounds like a great idea to me; I suggest we look into this ASAP...

Most definitely. Any more ideas about fund raising that anyone else may have are all welcomed to be posted here.

I could go with you if you'd like. What time were you planning on stopping by there?

Hmm, I know a store were we could get cases of Pocky: the original ones and the more exotic ones too. If you think selling those for a sale would be good, then let me know.

Ok, I checked with some local suppliers. Both of them sold individual boxes of original chocolate Pocky with two pouches per box.
One grocery store said they would sell me a small case of 10 boxes at $2.33 each, so $23.30 per case. Needless to say, this is a rip off.
Another would sell me the same boxes in a case of 80 at $1.77 per box, so $141.60 per case. If we sell them at $2 each, we can fetch a profit of $18.40 - if we sell them all.
I'll see what other sources have for such deals, such as online distributors, etc.
If you want to, we could remove each little baggie from each individual box and sell them for $1 each, which should make them cheap enough for people to just pick them up and go.
For other things we could sell, perhaps we should also offer other anime-related foods - such as apples and potato chips (ala Death Note)? That would be awesome and doable, though I am at a loss for other offerings.

What about rice cakes, or at least rice krispy treats in the shape of rice cakes? I can probably find a recipe for japanese sweet bread too.

Well honestly the first Pocky deal is a total ripoff, which we shall not be engaging in. And the second Pocky deal is way too expensive. It is very likely we would take a huge loss after dropping $150 on 80 boxes of Pocky that may very likely not all sell. I don't suggest we do this one either unless someone is willing to shell out that much money for the stuff. I definitely don't encourage it though. I know of a place where I could possibly get the Pocky cheaper if we really wanted to sell it.
I do really like the idea of homemade Japanese snacks though. Perhaps we can find an economical way to pull that off.
