I would like to have a short discussion about a few things at the beginning of the next meeting. Here is what I'd like to talk about:
ACen: I would like to talk about getting a group together to go the anime convention Anime Central in Chicago, Illinois where we would be able to get group discounts if we had a large enough group. The funding for this event would come from each individual that wanted to go, so that would mean everyone would be paying for their own badges, hopefully at the discounted rate.
T-Shirts: I would like to bring up the idea of having t-shirts for the club. I will try to finish a design or two before the next meeting, and I welcome everyone to put forth your own design if you wish to do so or we could always use the mascot image from our fliers. I will call a vote in a future meeting once designs have been submitted and I will take the design to a shirtery where I will get a quote on how much it will cost per shirt. Then I will collect money from everyone who wants a shirt and then place the order.
The Forum: If anyone is unsatisfied with the current layout of the forum please feel free to suggest ideas for new boards or any other ideas regarding the forum you might have. If any ideas are presented, I will call a vote to see if they will be edited into the forum or not.
Other Ideas: If anyone else has any other ideas at all about the club they would like to share at the next meeting, please do so.

I was thinking of just having this as a small discussion before we got things going on Friday.

I second the suggestion for Anime Club t-shirts.
I'd like to organize a movie night event some time after we raise funds, because a similar event was what introduced me to this club in the first place and there might be other people who would like to join but don't have the courage to show up to the meetings on their own.

I was actually thinking about that as well. You're talking about the Howl's Moving Castle/Akira thing that happened a while ago right? I think that would be a really good way to help recruit new members, and like you said gather some of the shyer people. I think we should probably start planning this sometime soon and possibly execute it during welcome week next fall.

Yeah, I remember that well; Nate and I were at the heart of the planning for that one.
I personally think it'd be a great idea, but depending on what gets shown, we'll have to raise funds so that we can get the license necessary to show the film. It may or not be an issue depending on what we pick, though; Akira, for example, was free to show, but Howl took a few hundred bucks. Not to mention that we'll need money for catering and whatnot, so you'll have to tack that onto the price. And considering that we have next to nothing currently in the club fund, it's going to take some serious fundraising to pull this one off.
One of the most crucial decisions we're going to have to make regarding that one is what we'd end up showing. Ee're going to want it to be something that won't cause too much of a hit to our budget, but at the same time, it has to be something that holds appeal to the casual fans that aren't necessarily in as deep as the rest of us (i.e. something with a good dub; nothing too graphic or profane). We can opt for something a little more "hardcore" for the latter film if we end up doing a double feature, much like how we had the relatively tame, all-age-friendly Howl to start, then followed up later at night with the darker, more mature Akira.
We've still got several months to figure out the details though, and it's nothing that needs to be determined tomorrow, but it wouldn't hurt to toss out a few ideas at the next meeting.

Well, if anyone has questions about ACEN you can feel free to talk to me. I've been staffing it for years (this will be my 6th) and going to it for even longer. I will say this, it will be a good idea to figure out if a group is going soon as the Hotel's in the area sell out quick. You will be lucky to find openings in the Hyatt even at this point especially if you want double beds. There is a group rate that ACEN will give, but it requires everyone to register at one time, it's pre-reg only, and you need like 10 people.
The movie night thing was great. It's something that my club in Kentucky did every semester. The thing about doing something during welcome week is that we may be able to get the school to fund the license. We only have to worry about paying for a license for movies that are distributed by normal US movie companies, like Disney and Tri-Star. All normal anime companies we can show things for free. I still have contacts with most companies and will be happy to do the leg work there.
Sadly, I wont be at club this week. I forgot I'm catching the Wings game downtown. I'm planning to be up at the school tomorrow (Wed) so if anyone wants to talk to me about things feel free. I still have the artwork for our mascot as I live with the artist.

I still have the artwork for our mascot as I live with the artist. I've got the artwork on hand as well (color, grayscale, and line art), as well as the PSD file, so if we have any immediate need for it, I can provide it as well.

For the movie night, we could possibly ask for suggestions of movies from all of the members, and then call a vote to see generally which everyone would most like to show. Then Alanna, Luke, Nate, and myself could all decide which would be most reasonable to show. Then we could get down to planning for the licensing and such.
As for the artwork for the T-Shirts, I will announce that we are thinking of making them and we will be accepting submissions for designs at the next few meetings and voting on them later.
