Is anyone planning on going to ACen 2010? It came up in the discussion of Ohayocon that ACen may be a better choice to attend or even just another convention we could go to along with Ohayocon. It is taking place May 14-16, 2010 in Rosemont, Illinois. Here is the website: www.acen.org/I would like to attend this convention along with Ohayocon and any other convention that may be worth going to in the near future. I also think we should try to get a good amount of people from the club to go to this and go as a group. I would probably go as Lelouch/Zero from Code Geass or Shin from NANA as I did at Youmacon and possibly as Gauche Suede from Letter Bee. So if anyone is planning on going or know what they are going or what to go as, it would be nice to know.^^

Ya'll can come down and say hi to me at ACEN's AMV Room (though some of us still call it a VAT) since like Youma it's where I'll be most of the weekend other then late night partying with friends.

I'll definitely visit the AMV Room if I have a chance to make it down to ACen.

It should be noted that ACEN planning should happen early. The Hyatt sells out quite fast as does most of the hotels in the general area (there are quite a few within walking distance.) ACEN usually fills up hotels as far as 2 miles away.
Also, take note that unlike Youma food is scarce at ACEN. The closest fast food restaurant is Mcdonalds and that's about 1 mile walk away. About 2 miles the other direction is a Dennys. All the eateries in the convention center area are really nice and expensive, though the $13 chicken sandwich at the Hyatt's bar is made of win. There is no con suite at ACEN.
I've been staffing and going to this con for 7 years now, so I can give you some pointers and things if you want to know. While I do know advanced knowledge about layouts and things for the con I'm not really at liberty to discuss it, but if it's public knowledge I'm always happy to tell it.

I'm definitely going to have to try that chicken sandwich. Lol. Do you recommend that we should stay at the Hyatt if we manage to get rooms there, or is there a better solution as where to stay?

The Hyatt being the con hotel is always a nice choice. Though I would recomend trying to get into the executive wing if at all possible. Rooms are bigger and quieter there.
However, the Double Tree is an awesome choice for a hotel in the area. It's a long walk through the hamster trail to get to the hyatt but outside it isn't bad. (and it's closer to the dealers room) Plus the rooms are suites and have lots of space. A Huge tub and separate showers. It's all together a nice place.

ACen 2010 Attendance Listngsilver.com/umdanime/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=47Attending as Staff:Nathan Silverthorn, ngsilver, staff Attending w/ UMD Anime:Edward Poulos, ed335dot, cosplaying Shizuo Heiwajima & Shinichi Okazaki Alanna Punch, Empiremaker Chris Purchase, ShadowDra William Cawthon Justin Seymour, Veleon Walter Hil Anyone else that would like to attend ACen 2010 with the UMD Anime Club should let it be known now so that I can add you to the list. Also, if anyone on the list knows who they are cosplaying, let me know so I can update it on the list. I would like to get the hotel rooms reserved within the next week or so. So far, its looking like that we're only going to need one room. The room will cost us $165 per night over the course of three nights, making it a total of $495. I believe that we will have to pay for the first night in full when we reserve the room, so we will need around $27.50 per person, but probably more with taxes and such. It would be nice if everyone could get that money in really soon so we can reserve the room. The remaining cost per person for the rest of the nights will be around $55 plus taxes. I don't think we should need that money until we arrive at the hotel, but it might be a good time to set that much aside for when the time comes. It still looks like the badges are going to cost us $50 dollars per person for the time being and an extra $2 per person to have them shipped to us, unless we can get more people to attend to receive a discount, but its not looking like that will happen at this point. I also suggest that we take my van and drive to the convention, as I can take six other people plus myself. I would probably need a full tank for the way there and a full tank for the way back, and at $40 a tank, across six people, would be around $13.33 per person. Parking would be $15 per day at the hotel, so that cost would be $7.50 per person. And don't forget, you're going to want to have extra money for food and souvenirs. So overall, you are going to need:$30 - Initial Hotel Room Fee $60 - Remaining Hotel Room Fee $52 - Badge Fee $23- Gas/Parking Fee $165 - TOTAL Also, the school may be willing to cover up to $500 or half of our cost to attend this trip. I will find out if that is possible and let everyone know how much it would cost if that goes through.
