In an attempt to gather materials and things for the club I have contacted Funimation and we have been approved to join their Anime Club support program called Operation Anime. Essentially, we are given a choice of a bunch of series that we will get a free DVD of each month. (we pick one each month and they send it to us) We keep the DVD, screen it sometime during the month, and then submit a short feedback form from each member who watched it. From this program we get free DVDs each month, and we also get a streamlined ability to get screening permission for Funimation titles as well as support for parties and events (read free stuff.) So, we need to make our decision for September's pick. You can follow this link: operationanime.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=main.calendar in order to see what is available, read up a bit on each series, and make your decision. When you have decided please select from the poll above. There are unfortunately not enough spaces to list all of the series available, so I will list the others next: (it should be known that the discs at the bottom of the list are most likely to be taken off the list next month) Spiral Tenchi Muyo! GXP Kiddy Grade Fruits Basket Blue Gender Negima!? (Series 2) Also, there are a few series that have multiple disks available, in the case of those series, it is only disk 1 that we are considering first. This poll will close before the meeting next week and we will announce the poll's conclusion during the meeting and see if the members present are happy with the selection (or break a tie if needed.)

Gotta go Slayers, man.
But still, kudos to you, Nate. This is exactly the kind of thing the club needs. (Well...that, and a Netflix subscription...)

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but do we have a time for these screenings?
I mean, will they take place during the current anime club viewing sessions? Will new ones be set up? If so, is there a time and/or place in mind?

well we have in affect 9 slots, 2 officer, 6 voted on and one floater spill over slot, while i know we could have voted for 7 slots i decided it better to just have 6 and keep the floater open for random stuff, also nate still has his slot to make calls on.

Well, I've said before I've been wanting to use my spot for OVAs. And personally, i have no problems with giving up my spot for showing this. Also, there is nothing against letting members 'check out' these DVDs and watch on their own time either. I figure we show about 2 episodes of each disk and decide if we want to watch the rest at meeting. If not, members can borrow the DVD and watch on their own time. At least that's what I'm thinking.
Also, there is nothing stopping us from watching these DVD's subtitled, however it is recommended that we watch in English. The last time I was part of this program a group of us would watch the dub first to decide if it was good enough, if not we would show the sub to the club.
I am in talks with other companies to get stuff, unfortunately most of the companies that had programs similar to this have either stopped due to the economy or no longer are in business. For those of you who don't know, I was VP and Pres. of the anime club at the University of Kentucky before moving to Michigan and have done these kinds of things before. I still have contacts inside multiple companies and can still use them. The only thing I need is time. I'm also working with Right Stuf as well.
Oh, and if we really want, I DO have a netflix account. So if there is anything in particular that anyone may want to see I can see about grabbing it as well.

Also, like I said the poll will close Friday morning in order to allow time to compile the results so we can vote at the meeting. This will give new users and the rest a chance to see the list and vote. Until then you can change your vote if you so desire as well.

^ That's a good thought. I'll have to take a glance through the Netflix anime catalog to see what's available.

So, after voting Friday the club decided on Slayers. However, it would appear that Slayers, while not being at the bottom of the list was one of the series that was taken off in the last week. So with that in mind I will just order the 2nd most popular choice, Baccano! I hope to have the disk in by the next meeting.

In either case, since the plan was to show four episodes, I can still bring in my DVDs to show the last of the four...
