The casting choices seem pretty good to me, and while they are changes (such as slight name alterations and the removal of the Gundam references), they don't hurt things too much. As for the writing, it's like Shin-Chan...but for kids! In fact, the only thing that really irked me a whole lot was the usage of the word "pwn"...
All things considered, I don't think it's too bad, especially considering I've heard rumors that they might be trying to continue ADV's original plan to get the show a TV deal on a network like Nick or Disney. I think it could really catch on with the younger crowd pretty easily.
(Also, Chris Sabat's performance was absolute GOLD.)
