Try google and wiki, they'll help.
IRC is chat. One of the oldest ways to transfer files over the internet and it's still used as the major backbone for transferring fansubs and the like. Still more reliable then torrenting. You should try it sometime. But be careful, the haxorz hanging on IRC can chew you up and spit you out.
btw, hope the falcon food run was good this week. Sadly I was too sick to even go into work.
